Your wedding cake should be as unique as you are, and, like all of your other wedding elements, it should work with the other aspects of the event to reflect the bride and groom's personalities. That being said, there are a lot of options and often the possibilities can seem overwhelming. Should you go with sleek and chic white fondant or decadent buttercream? Should your cake be classically elegant or funky and fresh? Perhaps you'd like to have cupcakes, pies, or a candy bar in lieu of a cake? There are seemingly endless questions, but here are a few tips to help you choose a wedding-worthy cake creation/dessert:
1. Planning a small wedding? More and more couples are having their reception at small boutique restaurants, creating an intimate and close-knit event.
2. ’Tis the season! Embrace the fall harvest by incorporating festive spices, rich chocolates, and nuts into your cake design.
Couples who love exotic flavors may want to go with cupcakes instead of one big cake — you’ll be able to offer a variety of tastes, satisfying palettes both complex and simple.
3. Make sure it tastes good! Guests may love the design, but ultimately it’s the taste they will remember.
4. Not keen on cake? More and more couples are opting for ice cream, pie, and cookies in lieu of the traditional wedding cake. These desserts can be fun — and super-unique.
5. Instead of copying a photo of a cake you love, choose your favorite elements from a few different cakes to create your own unique and inspiring design.
6. White cakes may be traditional and safe, but bold-colored cakes are a great opportunity to express your personal style and incorporate your color palette.
7. The addition of non-cake items like macaroons, cupcakes, ice cream, and chocolates are an easy way to personalize your dessert menu and provide guests with lots of options.
