Walking along the beach on a gorgeous day in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, holding the hand of the person you love sounds like the perfect dream. Well, this isn't a dream. It simply describes one of the many picturesque moments shared between Christy and Jay on their wedding day. The couple along with 60 of their closest family and friends made the trip from Chicago to Mexico to celebrate their nuptials in style. "Jay and I love to travel, especially to the beach, so we wanted to have it at a location where all of our friends and family could vacation for a long weekend and celebrate our wedding," Christy says. "It was the most unbelievable setting to get married. We were on a veranda overlooking the mountains and ocean. The sound of the ocean crashing on the rocks still brings me chills."
Getting married in a destination known for its remarkably warm, sunny days, Christy knew she wanted her wedding to coordinate with that type of atmosphere. She decided on yellow as the main color because it reminds her of the sun, warmth and summer. She also knew this color would get all the guests excited, especially when they received the invitations in the middle of the gloomy winter in Chicago. "The color was the hit of the wedding and put everyone in such a great mood." she says.
Yellow may have been the main color of the wedding, but Christy couldn't get married without including her favorite color: pink. Her dress was simple and was perfect for the surroundings. "I found a beautiful lace dress that was perfect for a beach wedding," she says. "I ordered it without the train and wore flip-flops the whole day."
With a wedding this perfect, there was definitely more than one favorite moment. However, for Jay and Christy, the highlight was being surrounded by their favorite people all day. On the day of the wedding, everyone relaxed by the pool during the day and Jay and Christy were married at 7 P.M. A couple other favorites included Jay's friend Owen marrying the couple and, of course, hitting the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife and never leaving it. "We truly had an all-day party which is exactly how we wanted to approach our wedding," Christy says.
The newlyweds want to offer some words of advice.
Tips:
1) Be organized and get a binder! Make a to-do list but don't try to do everything at once. Break it up into weekly tasks and everything will seem less overwhelming.
2) Roll with the punches will a smile on your face. Everything is not going to go perfect but that's fine, you are only going to remember the best parts.
