Main Course Catering

Bruce Kazan, owner of Main Course Restaurant and Catering in New Paltz, is a perfect example of a chef who creates extraordinary dishes through the use of locally raised and grown ingredients. A longtime advocate of buying local, Kazan has cultivated relationships with small farmers throughout the Hudson Valley. And those relationships pay off: When Kazan wants something more exotic or rare than local farms usually produce, he just asks them to grow it. As a result, Kazan’s menus are not only composed of the freshest possible ingredients; they’re also eclectic, modern, and always interesting.

As a student at SUNY New Paltz, Kazan pursued a degree in business and helped pay his way by working at various area restaurants. He discovered a passion for fine food, and after SUNY went on to attend the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, where he graduated at the top of his class. His post-grad culinary career began in New York City, managing hotels for the famous Hilton chain and later working with the Restaurant Association, running large events for the New York Philharmonic, the U.S. Open, and Lincoln Center.

After several years in the big city, Kazan and his wife moved back to the Hudson Valley, opening the Main Course Restaurant, which has now been in business for 18 years. In his full-service catering business, Kazan serves the Hudson Valley and New York City, working with top event designers and some of the most stunning venues in the region, and
has catered celebrations for such notables as President Bill Clinton and England’s Prince Andrew. Famous or not, every client gets a menu tailored to their tastes, with presentation and a level of professionalism that is sure to impress.
