Give your wedding ceremony a taste of summer with flavors Inspired by the season.

It’s beginning to look a lot like summer, with blooming cakes and pretty patterns designed to inspire perfect first
(and second) bites. Whether you crave sleek refinement or decadent extravagance, the cake of your dreams is just a taste away.

Pretty Pastels: the world is in bloom, and so are some of the season’s loveliest cakes. Take a cue from nature and adorn your cake with beautiful blossoms.

Bold Beauties: eschew the ordinary and choose a cake that’s as unique as your own love story. Quirky designs and bold colors are a delicious alternative to tradition.

Cake is the flavor centerpiece of a wedding; concocting it should be a delectable experience. Borrow ideas from New York’s inspired professionals to create one that’s truly you.

1) Use mini chalkboards or framed signs to identify the cake fillings and flavors in your
wedding cake or cupcakes. Your guests will have tons of fun taste-testing different combinations.

2) When it comes to cakes on a budget, Linda Laestadius of Sweet Nothings suggests couples book as soon as possible and get a contract. That way, if prices go up for the next season, you will remain at the same rate.

3) Share your favorite vintage fabrics or lace with your cake designer. This can help them to understand your style. And don't forget the bling — jewelry (especially brooches) and art are a great way to demonstrate your taste, too.

4) Trying to cut down on cake costs? More brides are baking their own cakes and having professionals decorate them. “They spend a couple hundred dollars and look like they spent a couple thousand,” says Amy of The Sugar Flower Shop.

5) “Make your wedding a celebration of your personality,” says Linda Laestadius of Sweet Nothings. “Make it about who you are, what you love, and where you’re from.” One couple used pecans grown in their backyard for pies at the reception.

6) Try setting a small cake on each table rather than having one big one. Guests can help themselves — and each other — without waiting in a long line. Miniature cakes also make gorgeous centerpieces.

7) Remember, there are no clear-cut rules to your cake. Whether you want an ornate Victorian theme or simple country style, it’s ultimately your day and your call.

*EDITOR'S NOTE: the best cakes are the ones that really reflect a couple’s personality, so use personal details to make your cake unique.
